Do you know what Schlein did for a living? She was a... More...

Before becoming the first woman to lead the Nazarene, Elly Schlein's story was marked by a diverse identity and a professional career away from the Italian spotlight.

Born in Switzerland in 1985, the daughter of academics, she cultivated a global vision from an early age, which led her to study in Lugano and the University of Bologna, where she graduated in Law with honors. Her public debut did not come from party circles, but through significant international experience: in 2008 and 2012, she flew to the United States to volunteer for Barack Obama's election campaigns.

It was in those contexts that the 38-year-old (at the time of her primary victory) learned the techniques of grassroots mobilization and the power of modern political communication. Her commitment continued in the field of documentary film, collaborating on projects exploring the themes of migration and rights, before arriving at the European Parliament in 2014.

During those years in Brussels, she distinguished herself for her work on the reform of the Dublin Treaty, seeking to change European rules on reception, a battle that defined her political identity. After her European experience and her stint with the Possibile movement, her triumphant return to Emilia-Romagna saw her serve as Vice President of the Region, becoming the most voted candidate in the region's history.

This solid base of support propelled her into the national challenge against Stefano Bonaccini, overturning all odds thanks to the support of non-members. Today, Schlein's challenge is to transform that wealth of experience in Chicago, Brussels, and Bologna into a political proposal capable of uniting a historically fragmented party, keeping faith with the promise of radical renewal that brought her to the top.
